Where the Trident Motorcycle stands today
This page describes the actual development status of the Trident Motorcycle. It is written to distinguish work that has been completed from work that has not. It is updated as the status changes, and the revision date is shown at the bottom of the page.
Summary: the Trident Motorcycle is a product in development. It is preliminary and limited. It is not commercially available, it cannot be ordered or purchased, and no completed vehicle exists at this time.
1. Concept — complete
The concept is defined and documented:
- A three-wheel chassis with front-wheel drive and independent front suspension.
- An adjustable suspension that allows the vehicle to kneel toward the ground.
- A rear section that swings away so that a rider using a wheelchair can enter from the rear and be latched to the chassis.
- Two powertrain paths: internal combustion and electric.
- Three vehicle configurations: Model A, Model CE, and a third configuration that is unnamed at this time.
2. Design and engineering — in progress
Completed to date:
- 3D design work covering the chassis, body panels, cockpit and the wheelchair entry sequence, documented in renderings and drawings dated 2019 through 2023.
- Frame layout drawn in chrome-moly tubing.
- Selection of Honda passenger-car drive components, chosen so that future service could be more widely available.
- Definition of the multiple retaining points intended to hold a wheelchair and rider to the chassis.
- Documentation of the rear entry sequence in drawing form.
Design work is ongoing. All of the above is subject to change.
3. Rider-fitting software — in development
Software intended to record rider measurements, the physical support a rider requires, and the type of wheelchair a rider uses — powered or manually propelled — is currently being developed. It is not finished and it is not in use.
4. Prototype — not yet complete
No completed Trident Motorcycle exists at this time. There is no production vehicle. No vehicle has been delivered to a rider.
5. Testing — not yet performed
Road testing, durability testing, and regulatory or homologation testing have not been carried out.
Every performance figure published on this website — horsepower, top speed, weight, braking, range — is a design target derived from component specifications and engineering drawings. None are measured results from a Trident vehicle.
6. Manufacturing — planned, not established
The current plan is to manufacture the first run of Trident motorcycles in the Columbus, Ohio area. This is a plan. No manufacturing facility, tooling or production line is in operation for this product.
7. Expected changes
The following are all expected to change as engineering and testing progress:
- Specifications and performance figures
- Model names and model configurations
- Materials and component selection
- Development and availability timing
- Estimated pricing
Nothing on this website should be treated as final.
